Nice overview of the 5 branches of the Tree of Life。 Beautiful, colorful illustrations。 I'm not sure why the animal families that were showcased were chosen。 For example, birds are represented by parrots, owls, ducks and penguins。 Species names are explained and provided for illustrated animals。 The introduction says this book is all about noticing how many different species there are。 That may be the point。 A penguin is not a penguin。 Seven species of penguins are given in the book。 A beautiful Nice overview of the 5 branches of the Tree of Life。 Beautiful, colorful illustrations。 I'm not sure why the animal families that were showcased were chosen。 For example, birds are represented by parrots, owls, ducks and penguins。 Species names are explained and provided for illustrated animals。 The introduction says this book is all about noticing how many different species there are。 That may be the point。 A penguin is not a penguin。 Seven species of penguins are given in the book。 A beautiful picture books for young explorers。 。。。more

The illustrations are delightful and gorgeous - I loved the colors and the unusual, surprised eyes。 My kids liked the animal facts and I was surprised to see that they knew a lot of them already from Octonauts!

"Dolphins don't really smile; it's just the way their jaws are shaped。"A combination of interesting, digestible factual tidbits and simply gorgeous, gorgeous illustration with vivid colours。 The book highlights both familiar and less-talked-about animals (like slugs), shares their Latin names and how many species there are for each kind of animals at the bottom left corner of each page (do you know that there are 3,000+ species of snakes?), and introduces the basics of animal classification and "Dolphins don't really smile; it's just the way their jaws are shaped。"A combination of interesting, digestible factual tidbits and simply gorgeous, gorgeous illustration with vivid colours。 The book highlights both familiar and less-talked-about animals (like slugs), shares their Latin names and how many species there are for each kind of animals at the bottom left corner of each page (do you know that there are 3,000+ species of snakes?), and introduces the basics of animal classification and the issue of extinction。 You can also finds a glossary at the end of the book。More picture book reviews at IG @booksandblocks。id 。。。more

This is a huge book packed full of lovely painted illustrations and loads of interesting facts。 A double page spread is given to a different species, not all are covered but a selection to show the variety in our natural world。 Children who love facts about animals will enjoy this。 There is so much to look at。 Ideal for a long journey。
